Your absolutely on point Old School it really can. My xo driver is an experienced driver who just recently came back to trucking. He is an older gentleman who lost most of his pension when the company he worked for declared bankruptcy. He went back to school for a refresher course and now is working at prime. He only wants to work for 7 more years so he can finish his retirement. He also contacted me about driving with him, a widower that doesn't want to drive solo. After consideration and discussing with him if it didn't work for either one of us we could opt out I decided that having an experienced driver could be a great value on my inexperience. I found if I surround myself with people who can cover my short comings an asset. I hope it all works out as well you have many of the concerns I asked myself. No matter if he stays with me or goes I hope to learn some valuable lessons while he is with me.

Well, that all sounds good. I wish you the best man!

I think you are smart enough to realize that trucking companies didn't come up with this leasing idea just so their drivers could make more money. This is their solution for controlling run away expenses. Any time a business can put controls on it's costs it get's itself ahead of the game. The leasing programs are just that, a control measure put in place by the bean counters. Keep that in mind while running your business, and please don't ever get the idea that you are the one in control over what kind of loads you are going to accept or not. There are some loads that will pay better than others, and of course you want to take the best paying loads, but a good dispatcher will understand that some times you have to take a load that barely pays enough to cover your expenses so that you can get yourself over into a part of the country that has good paying loads. Some times a short haul is better to take than a long one depending on what part of the country you are in. Trust the folks over at Prime to get you the kind of loads you need - they have an interest in this business of yours also. If you get to where you start demanding this or that, you may find yourself with little or nothing to do - they control all your marketing and sales - you are just on the production side of this business relationship - they will be expecting you to produce.

There are so many things you have not experienced yet, and so much to learn about the financial side of it all. But trust me it will just about be all you can do for that first year just to get accustomed to the demands of this whole new lifestyle. I wish you the best, and hope to hear some success stories from you.

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Thank you so much that is the type of encouragement with caution I expect from someone with your experience. Making my inaugarel run and dropping my first load today. I will give all the details this weekend. Be safe my friend.
