Starlink Roaming (Internet Service)

I definitely looked at it and honestly until they can get it settled down to where we can use it mobile I won't buy into it. I did think about using it at home, because we have crappy internet there too though so I am definitely interested in the speeds people are actually getting vs what they are claiming.

Carrier Safety Incentives

My company does it monthly, it's a lot nicer to know that if you screw up it's only going to effect you for a month rather than a whole quarter. They track HOS compliance, productivity, and safety.

Understanding Personal Conveyance

There have been 2 times that I have used PC for parking. The first was when I parked in a no parking area at a pilot bc i wrongly assumed that reserving myself a spot online before I got there would guarantee me a spot. I was wrong and they wouldn't kick a guy out that didn't pay so I could park. The spot across the road had a spot but I had less than a min left on my clock. So I parked in the no parking area so the cop that was there because someone backed into someone else would ask me to move. Surprisingly it worked out. And I learned to never reserve parking at that pilot.

The second time was actually recently. Running recaps I tend to run down my time and this time was no different I only had 6 mins left on my clock when I came to the rest area surprise. Wyoming closed it, so I had to backtrack to the gas station down the road about 6 miles back. I feel pretty confident that in either situation I could show an enforcement officer that I wasn't advancing the load. The first I moved across the street and the second I actually backtracked 6 miles away from the direction I was heading.

Supernatural or Spooky encounters on the Road

Well, last night I passed a cattle hauler AND a FedEx driver in Utah on the flat and I was only going 65 mph in a 75 mph zone!

Lies. You can't claim that without some dashcam footage to back it up lol.

The creepiest thing that I have ever seen was one night in Washington I had just picked up a load of apples and I was on some state routes to get back to the interstate, I kept seeing these small animals darting across the road. I assume they were mice or something and then out of nowhere this giant shadow flew out of the trees and snatched one off the road in front of me. I honestly didn't know owls wingspans were that big lol

Far West Texas O/O Researching Pro-2A Carriers / Brokers

I'm glad at least 2 others have said it. You are coming across as one of those paranoid prepper types. The ones who make the whole prepping and firearm communities look bad.

If you honestly feel as strong about carrying as you say then your not gonna let company policy get in the way. You already cut yourself off from some decent loads by not taking loads into the NE and the blue states. Why do you care what your company has to say about it?

As for myself, I can honestly say I've only felt the need to carry once. That was when I got in a hurry and failed to look at the overnight parking this one customer had. It was on street parking in a sketchy neighborhood in Philly. I just saw the dispatch said they had parking and ran to it. Shame on me. Other than that I've never felt the least bit concerned about it. Situational awareness goes a lot farther than packing heat.

I do know other drivers who work for some larger carriers who have said they carry, I've never seen it so who knows if they actually do or not? It comes down to what choice you want to make. They can tell you.you aren't allowed to carry, but if you are willing to chance losing your job, you can carry. The laws can tell you you aren't allowed to carry, but if your cool with losing your gun n not being allowed to purchase more then have at it.

Empty trailers, high winds and a bunch of things I can't wrap my head around

I don't know the science or anything but my anecdotal evidence is that it feels more stable in the wind with my tandems the whole way back. We have a load out of salt lake that is under 20k that goes across Wyoming and when I get that one I like to run either the tandems back until I get to N Platte.

Now that the Soviets have invaded Ukraine...

To reply to Mr curmudgeon there. The best thing we as drivers can do is to make sure we are more self sufficient. Carry some extra food on the truck, try to not let everyone and thier brother know what you are carrying. Just basic stuff goes a long way. I know me personally, I am carrying a larger supply of cash, hidden of course. If the war broadens then I expect high amounts of cyber warfare. Payment systems going down, electric grids failing temporarily or permanently, phone systems going down.

Let's hear it - what do you guys think about the Canadian Truckers?

"Protest peacefully and keep the goods moving don’t be like BLM or antifa and block roads and trample on other’s Constitutional rights."

And for Goodness' sake, DON'T throw any tea in the water.

Unfortunately, NOT doing anything that would be construed as trampling on others' rights is how we've gotten into this predicament. I'm not advocating violence, but how much of a beat-down are the citizens supposed to take? Even here in The U.S.A. we're supposed to be a Representative Republic. But what to do when the representatives no longer represent the governed? Look at how the government protects itself, but allows rampant crimes against the citizens. E.g. protecting The Capitol vs. the Southern Boarder.

Blockading may not be the best answer. Heck, it may not even be the right answer. But, notice the dictates that are coming down? The governments (in Canada and U.S.A) are not even negotiating with opposing points of view, they're saying do it their way or suffer.

To all who say we can't win these battles I say; THANK GOD the Patriots of 1776 didn't give up so easily!

I agree with this so much. I remember back when people were complaining about the BLM protests/riots the side that agreed with them said that protests were supposed to be disruptive to get people to pay attention. And yet when the other side is disruptive they are asking why the government isn't calling in the military.

How Is Illness Handled On The Road When It Lays You Up?

Just to add to the experiences here, I've had stomach problems before, usually having to stop more often than I would normally. Once or twice I've gotten some bad Chester's chicken. Usually for me it passes pretty quick, otherwise I just let dispatch know I need to slow down for a day or 2 and let them know im ready to pick it up when I start feeling better.

I don't know about others, but I've gotten into the habit of making sure I have a full med kit on the truck with me. I got over the counter stuff to treat just about anything that can go wrong. From allergies to colds to upset stomachs to cuts and scrapes.

Are You In The Ditch?

I was really lucky. I had a delivery that ran me right through the storm zone and I drove very hard to make sure I stayed ahead of it. When I was reloaded and coming back I shut down and not 30 mins after that PA shut the highway down. I got back on the road the next day and saw all the trucks in ditches and medians.

I will say I very surprised to see that most of them were O/O and not the big fleets. Normally it's the other way around.
