Beth, I just LOVE your title!

No one specifically answered for teams. As team, yes you live in a small can with another person, hopefully compatibly. You two decide your food arrangements. One cooks-one drives, Fend-for-yourself, or some combination of these. Just keep the truck rolling!

Have you got your Learners Permit? Get it before you get to Prime, with the endorsements. This is one less thing you have to worry about during Orientation.

Beth- I mis-wrote the sentence with Learners Permit.

It should have read- Have you passed the CDL Class A test, with endorsements?

In order to get the learners permit, you need the DOT Medical card. I got my DOT med card at Prime. Then I took it with my test scores and $38 ( I don't remember the exact amount) to the DMV and got the learners permit.

DOT- Dept of Transportation DMV- Dept of Motor Vehicles

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

At this point, I'm pretty much against team driving after training unless I find somebody I click with and choose to later on. My husband agrees that with my personality, solo is best (and no, he isn't the jealous or distrusting type who doesn't want me to team with a guy) and is actually part of the reason he thinks this would be a good career for me. He went through CRST years ago and liked it, so it isn't anything against the company either.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

I will do it as soon as we know when I can go. We have some loose ends at home that I need to be here to help tie up. I don't want to risk it expiring. The DMV here, strangely enough, is out of CDL books, has been for a while, and has no idea when they'll get more in, so I'm reading it in PDF and starting the High Road program.
