According to the FMCSR section 383.25 (e):
The CLP holder is not eligible to take the CDL skills test in the first 14 days after initial issuance of the CLP."
I do not believe this is new; maybe something the school realized they needed to enforce???
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
The CSA is a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) initiative to improve large truck and bus safety and ultimately reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities that are related to commercial motor vehicle
The FMCSA was established within the Department of Transportation on January 1, 2000. Their primary mission is to prevent commercial motor vehicle-related fatalities and injuries.
What Does The FMCSA Do?
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
Before getting their CDL, commercial drivers will receive their commercial learner's permit (CLP) upon passing the written portion of the CDL exam. They will not have to retake the written exam to get their CDL.

Maybe FMCSA should change it too 30 days, that may help close some of the CDL mills and give students more behind the wheel time.

I was told it changed. ..it used to be 75 Hitt on the road. ..now it is 14 days fromm the day you get the permit. I had the permit for six days before getting in a truck cause I passed the written tests immediately. There is NO way I would be ready to test in a week. ..I'm taking my time and learning ...ridding won't help me
Its always been that way I thought anyways... I went to two company sponsored programs and never got mine in 14 days.... 16 at best....
as for cdl mills
you sound like every super trucker out there... They are not cdl mills... They teach you enough to get your cdl and then you get your training on the road.... Just like going to a private trucking school but faster....
