You're going to need an insanely good enclosure for the rats. Most people keep them in an aquarium, but that won't work well in a truck because aquariums hold in heat. You'll probably need some kind of wire mesh enclosure.

I think I'll have to take advantage of this. I have my chickens in a wire mesh and wood enclosure now. The rats seem to love it. Maybe I should put the chickens in an aquarium to get rid of the rats!

I heard on RoadDog Trucking this morning that JB Hunt now allows pets, specifically dog and cat. Spoke to a recruiter this morning to confirm this, the following pertains to a dog: 60lb weight, Shots documented,$300 deposit and non-aggressive breed.

Brett - you might want to move this company from the not-allowed to the the allowed list.

Lol, this is a good topic it lets the fear out in us. As far as pets go a dog and a cat is far as I will go unless its a cow or a horse or a bucking bull and I am sure the latter 3 would not be allowed in the cab. A rat or a snake, ya up on the highest place possible for me lol. Not sure where that phobia comes from but it could come from rolling over small square bales and coming face to face with a rattler or standing in a straw stack and the mice jumping inside of my over boots lol. I would make sure I ask the right person at Prime about taking your pet rat along, just sayn.

Yeah, I already cleared it up. A rat wouldn't take well to the road, so I did the next best thing: I got a tiny chihuahua.

Very cool. I'm in the process of trying to rescue another pit to be my road buddy from a no kill shelter that's about to close. I can't take any of our current furry family members because they're bonded too strongly.

Nice! I already have a pug, but he's really anxious when taking car rides, so I didn't think he would fare well on the road. It's not nervous excitement. He really doesn't like it. Weird for a dog, but what can you do? The chihuahua is pretty much a velcro dog, moreso than my pug, and he doesn't mind anything one bit as long as I'm right there.

I had a taco bell dog on a road trip from Maryland to Oregon and that little booger wouldn't leave my shoulder as I was driving... Never again with they have sharp nails even when clipped...

I have a car booster seat thing that he is harnessed into when I'm driving. It helps him see out the window of a normal car. I'm not sure the clearance for a truck, but it would keep him secure, both while driving and in the event of an accident.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
