The Flying J on the east side of Kansas City Exit 57 on I-435 across the street from the Blue Beacon. Was bothered by lot lizards 3 time in one night. Last one was after the sun was coming up. The first one I got up for not knowing what was going on. 2nd one I did not bother to get up. 3rd one came over as I was sitting in the drivers seat eating my pop tarts and getting ready to get on the road.

Since then, I avoid that Flying J. That Flying J also only has the hot food bar, no other eating establishment available at the T/S. It also is very tight parking and the parking lot is just nasty......

That is one tiny truck stop. Trucks are parked on the street before sundown, that's how tight the parking is.

Dave

Yeah, that truck stop is all around nasty. There's an Ameristar Casino with a gravel lot that will fit at least 50 trucks within five miles of that place.

The T.A. in Jessup MD

I've been there only once. I've heard stories about that truck stop.

That's the one that charges for parking, and has the Knights Inn motel, right?

Dave

Yep, that's the one. I stopped there once, didn't have any problems, but I also didn't get out of the truck after dark other than to pretrip.

The truck stops in south Dallas on I 20 are about as bad as West Memphis, btw. I trip plan to avoid stopping there.

West Memphis, East St. Louis, East Palo Alto (at least in the 90's now it's being gentrified), why are places in the USA with compass adjectives tacked on always much nastier than the original? Is it a just a coincidence or confirmation bias on my part. Is West Virginia better or worse than Virginia?

I've never stayed overnight at a truck stop, but I did stop at the Motel 6 that's adjacent to the Pilot in Fort Wayne IN. The registration office was behind plexiglass, and there was a strip club offering bobtail parking between the hotel and truck stop. Not sure if drivers are hassled at this TS, but it looks like there is potential for crime as the area looked sketchy.

"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.

I've stopped at that Pilot in Ft Wayne many times, it's not a bad place at all. The restaurant has pretty decent food and that strip club is pretty nice too.
