Hey Larry, I've never worked for Prime but as far as most companies go that won't work. Usually after you've been home for four days they would like to see you moving again. Hopefully some of our "Primers" will jump in here with some company specific information for ya.
I've done it at Swift. Teams are allowed a little more leeway as far as that goes though. I also know a driver who drives four months straight and takes a month off. He has to clean out his truck each time though so they can reassign it. In the end at most companies it's going to boil down to your relationship with your DM. There are very few things a DM can't swing for you, but the question is whether they will want to. If you don't scratch their back they are not going to scratch yours, etc. As a new driver don't count on it, but once you've proven yourself a bit it's a good possibility.
Primes general policy is four days off max for company drivers. You earn a day off per week out, and I believe in most cases they always want you out at least 3-4 weeks. So only four days off after being out 8 weeks.
You can always ask your fleet manager and I have spoken with a guy that has driven for Prime around twenty years that stays out around six months at a time and takes two to three weeks off when he does go home. Combination vacation/time off, so a good driver of some years probably gets some leeway.
Personally I always run four weeks and take four days off, never had an issue getting home. Taken five days off twice in the last year (dentist thing and family death) and fm was fine with that too. Vacations are seven days consecutive that you get paid for, first one is earned at 125,000 miles.
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

if I start driving for Prime and get 1 day per week, can I go out for 8 weeks and then get 8 days off?
