OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

A lot of OTR drivers are out 6 weeks at a time, and sometimes more, especially if they are single, or a husband and wife team. As far as the shorter durations, it usually revolves around wanting to see the wife or husband, and children, more often. Many companies, nowadays have adapted to this, and offer some great options.
