I have seen signs like that before.

Here's another thing, that I don't get. The accident happened during the day time. There also looked like there was a place to back up and maybe get turned around.

Dave, indeed there is. Simply no excuse for it. And believe me the local people are really upset that the "stupid mean trucker" ruined their antique bridge.

Well, they have identified the driver.

Driver identified

She might NOT have been able to back up and turn around where I thought she would have, but there is a BIG difference between 5 or 6 ton and 30 or 35 ton.

Sometimes I'll be driving on a road that is marked okay for trucks on a Rand McNally map to find out the weight limit is 30 or 35 tons, and I'm carrying 40 tons, Gross Weight.

Here, I would have backed up. I figure it would have taken me about two hours to get to one of the side streets.

Heck, I had to back up, because I knew my truck was to big for a bridge clearance a couple of weeks back. At least I thought it might be. I wasn't going to drive all the way down the road and find out.

Police say Lambright was uncomfortable backing up the semi and didn't think to call police or another driver for assistance so she attempted to cross the iron bridge.

So...how did that grand plan work out for ya?

Police say Lambright was traveling at more than 30 miles per hour to get the vehicle to get stuck that far into the bridge.

She must have been binge watching Dukes of Hazard ever since she left the Amish community. She envisoned it going much differently in her head.

The truck is being held pending an Indiana State Police inspection.

They are about to pick that thing apart looking at every inch and finding every miniscule violation.

I think it was like the end of Thelma and Louise. They couldn't back up, so they just held hands and floored it toward the bridge.

I am surprised about the driver's inability to comprehend the difference between the six ton (12,000 pound) weight limit on the bridge and the nearly 38 ton (76,000 pound) weight of the truck, trailer, and the water loaded in the trailer.

38 minus six equals 32, right?

Some things in life simply cannot be fixed...

what is scary is she got her CDL and was driving a truck when whomever trained her didn't do a good job in my opinion and was allowed on the road. after reading the article about her she had no business in a truck

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
