Just remember when the truck is stopped you will be sleeping in the top bunk and that is also where you will be keeping your bag. So get something big enough for your stuff but small enough you can sleep with it. Yes there is storage on the truck but that is where your trainer will be keeping his stuff.

Whatever you do, don't be like certain people (yours truly) and pack five bags worth of things when you go out with you're trainer. A sleeping bag will do, and bring you're own pillow for when you're training. Believe me when you're training, when you do get a chance to sleep, you won't care where it is, as long as you can lay down in a horizontal position.

Food for thought down the road when you get your own truck: invest in memory foam (less than $10.00 at Walmart) and put it under you're mattress. Couple that with a sleeping bag (I had two packed under my mattress) and you'll find new meaning to the words "good night sleep." The "mattresses" the companies supply are paper thin!

Hold on.... Why is everyone saying you'll be sleeping on the bottom bunk when the truck is moving?

My entire training I never slept on the bottom bunk I only slept on the top even when the truck was moving. I remember climbing up on the top bunk while my trainer was driving 60mph with those bumps. That was something!

Because most companies have a policy that says no sleeping in top bunk while the truck is moving. Not only that its just plain smart to sleep on the bottom bunk while the truck is moving cause one hard brake and you go flying.

Some trainers simply don't want anyone sleeping in their bed regardless of company policy so it's hard to say what they'll expect you to do. But if you do sleep in the top bunk while the truck is rolling there's usually a seat belt on the bed. You should use it in case of a hard stop.

I mean, how cool is that? You have a career that requires you to strap in even when you're asleep! Not even fighter pilots can say that!

I wish I asked this question when in training. My trainer put the seatbelt under the mattress. I never used it. Haha oh boy that could have been bad.

I was just going to post a question about some of this so I will just tag a long on this post. I read all of whats needed except for the size of the duffle bag. I have been looking at some online, some have wheels some dont they range in size. What would be sufficient? would it be 36" 40" 50" etc? can it have wheels and a handle?

Thanks, Kevin

fyi, the 50" is HUGE .... might consider something smaller. I could easily pack my 16 y.o. daughter in the 50"

Whatever duffle you end up with, make sure everything fits in it ,clothes /sleeping bag/ pillow etc.Chances are good ,you'll be traveling VIA greyhound bus at some point and its much easier to keep up with one parcel instead of many.

Hey guys and gals,

Thanks for the all the information. I was already going to do the sleeping bag thing. I bought one earlier this year with the express purpose of going with a trainer. I am taking a small pillow (couch end pillow, small square one....believe it or not really comfortable. I can fit that into the bag my sleeping bag came in. Rest of the stuff will have to fit in the 26 in duffle bag I bought online from Sears. As far as entertainment, I don't plan on having much down time. I figure I will be too tired most of the time to worry about that, but I am a crossword/puzzle junkie. I has an app on my smartphone for that, or I can buy a few books of them. They are paperback and real light. Everything else I believe I will have room for. Thanks for the advice on here. You all stay safe.

Army Navy surplus store, you can pick up a seabag (duffle bag to civilians) for cheap and they fold out flat. I think the most expensive one i saw was huge and it was only like $45, but i cannot see anybody needing one that big.
