Just got off the phone with Melton the process has been put on hold until they get a 30 day report

Hmm...did you just start using it? I'm supposed to start orientation next week (with a different company) and I suspect they are going to have me do a sleep test, and I suspect they will determine that I have sleep apnea , and I was wondering if that will end up sending me home until data is collected.

Sleep Apnea:

A physical disorder in which you have pauses in your breathing, or take shallow breaths, during sleep. These pauses can last anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. Normal breathing will usually resume, sometimes with a loud choking sound or snort.

In obstructive sleep apnea, your airways become blocked or collapse during sleep, causing the pauses and shallow breathing.

It is a chronic condition that will require ongoing management. It affects about 18 million people in the U.S.

Very interested in this topic.... sorry to say I may be in the same boat. Anybody know if Prime sends you home until you have results on CPAP?

CPAP:

Constant Positive Airway Pressure

CPAP is a breathing assist device which is worn over the mouth or nose. It provides nighttime relief for individuals who suffer from Sleep Apnea.

I had sinus surgery and just got back on it I have to be on it 30 days to get a report.

If a company looking to hire someone wanted the new driver to take a sleep study, would they accept one that was done recently per request of your doctor performing your DOT physical?

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Some companies require a new physical done by their preferred doctor so it just varies. I have my 2 year physical renewed last november and a company I am considering will not take that physical and will send me to their doctor for one.

Prime does not send you home. If you have a certain BMI and neck measurement they will require you to have a sleep study. They do the study on site. If you are diagnosed with sleep apnea they will get you the CPAP. You pay for all this via payroll deductions.

BMI:

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:

  • Underestimate body fat for older adults or other people with low muscle mass
  • Overestimate body fat for people who are very muscular and physically fit

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.

CPAP:

Constant Positive Airway Pressure

CPAP is a breathing assist device which is worn over the mouth or nose. It provides nighttime relief for individuals who suffer from Sleep Apnea.

On the subject of Sleep Apnea and CPAP's, what if I bring my own machine? I've been using one for about 10 years now, got the mask and everything.

If I walk in telling them I have this, will they still require me to do the whole study? Trying to sleep with more wires in your head than R2D2 ain't easy even if you don't have sleep apnea..
