The standard most companies that do Hair foicle is 1 1/2 inch of hair which goes back 90 days. That is pretty much a standard for hiring it seems. The longer the hair sample the farther back they can look. The labs have standards and for pre employment the 90 days is usual. The whole medical marijuana thing is a mess beween the states and the feds. My question is more in line of your medical issue. Without the marijuana is it such it will cause you problems or preclude you from passing the DOT physical??? If any industry rejected everyone that has ever used marijuana at all there would be no work force.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

I find this to be a huge debate, medical marijuana is no longer illegal at the federal level, government is to be lifting said ban. But company's and recruiters will say other wise. I have been recommended medical marijuana since 2009. Im currently clean for ua and blood testing but will avoid hair follicle for at least another year. I forsee some discrimination lawsuits in the near future, if the feds did lift said ban. Shoot JB Hunt settled out of court over felon bs.

It's real simple when it comes to trucking - you can not take anything that will diminish your mental capacities in any way. There is a long list of legal prescriptions that can not be taken by truck drivers.

I correct my previous statement, feds lifted spending to dea and other agencies for enforcing the law on federal level. I'm not one to say that use of marijuana is or isn't to diminish mental capacities nor abilities to operate motor vehicle, I'll leave that up to the scientist that paid a lot of money for there education. If your worried about any drug test, first off stop use and purchase an at home test. Hair follicle test run around $50 and your answer will soon be found.

As stated by others, you need to have been off pot for at least 90 days to pass the test. Yes, you have a right to provide for your family, but the company also has the right to put safe drivers in their trucks. My advice would be to just stick with companies that go back only 90 days. Have you thought about paying for your own testing to see if you pass? Just an idea to ease your fears.

Some place here we have a list going of what companies require hair and or UA only. As far as the effects of marijuana, they mirror alcohol in many aspects. Alcohol has been legal for many years but you still cant use it and drive a cmv. So I imagine there will be no law suits because companies have a right to turn people away that demonstrate it's use.

CMV:

Commercial Motor Vehicle

A CMV is a vehicle that is used as part of a business, is involved in interstate commerce, and may fit any of these descriptions:

  • Weighs 10,001 pounds or more
  • Has a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating of 10,001 pounds or more
  • Is designed or used to transport 16 or more passengers (including the driver) not for compensation
  • Is designed or used to transport 9 or more passengers (including the driver) for compensation
  • Is transporting hazardous materials in a quantity requiring placards
