Everyone has their preferred brand I think and pros and cons of each but for my money and the options it provides I like the Rand McNally. To me it more reliable by far. I have 2,yes 2, Rand McNally 720's on my truck. One I use all the time and then I have an older 720 (my first one that the speaker is going out in) as a backup.

guyjax. I have a couple of questions about the Rand McNally GPS if you could answer them.

1. Does it have turn by turn voice directions. Meaning: Does it actually say, "In (xx distance) turn right on Elm Street" or "In (xx distance) take exit xx on right to (xx route)"?

2. What different types of tracking does it use? 3D, 2D. North UP. Direction UP?

I have looked at them on the Rand McNally site. I like the look of them, and what information the site has. But that is two questions I can't find the answer for.

Thanks,

Keep it safe out there. Joe S

1) yes to all on question one. The 720 you can even set the distance for each section.

2)It does all of those also

Just be careful with having a tablet on or near your dash. Depending on the officer and their attitude that day they can get you on having it up front with you and since it can be used for other things than just a GPS you might have a hard time proving that is all you use it for while driving.

Its great to have multiple devices built into one thing but its hard to be an item that does one thing really well.....like a straightforward GPS.

Most GPS apps are meant for cars or small vehicles. Have not found one that is just for trucks. If you are planning on spending $265 for this table then you might as well just buy a trucker GPS and know you will have a better device.

Well I own the Truckers Tablet Gps - TT2(version 2).

Recently i was pulled over for having this Tablet on my dash. The officer was going to write me a ticket for distracted driving but after a 3 minute discussion and show and tell with the tablet he would not write a ticket.

WHY you might ask? - With computers and Tablets they all can show recent activities - What programs are up and running, what time you were on these programs and so on. When i showed the officer that in fact this is a TRUCK GPS and the multi functions of this Tablet in this field not only was he impressed but he was going to recommend it to other trucking buddies he knows.

Another thing i was also doing at the same time along with the GPS was using it as a Dashcam. Oh yes, you can also use it as a dashcam while the GPS is up and running. HD video. I set my system up for recordings of 5 minute intervals and it records 30 videos and keeps on eliminating the old videos so it can keep recording. Now where is the Dashcam on the Rand Mcnally? oh wait it cant do that.

When not being used as a gps or dashcam i can use it as my Transflo machine for my paperwork. Can Other GPS units do that? Nope

How about Faxing paper work? Can Rand or other GPS unit fax paperwork to someone? Mine can.

How about Email? Yes i can

How about getting online? Yes i can

There is so much more this Tablet GPS can do then the RM and others and this loads up so much faster then the RM. I will put my GPS up against any others any day. Before you ask yes i have owned 2 Rand Mcnally(510 + 710) and tried the Cobra for a week (8000). in 2 years both RM's went to crap.

1GB ddr3 Sram

1.2ghz dual core processor

Front and rear cams

Truck specific GPS - most times it is connect to at least 8 and upto 14 GPS satellites

It is great that you like your GPS tablet. And you are lucky with your officer that stopped you.

I don't know many officers that would take the time to let a driver show them their "GPS" and prove they weren't using the tablet at the time.

A bus driver I used to work with was given a ticket for having his cell phone in his hand. Wasn't even using it.

He was going thru a weigh station. Had his cell phone on the dash on one of those "sticky pads". For what ever reason. Somehow. It slid off just as he pulled onto the scales and stopped. The driver caught it before it hit the floor.

He got a ticket. They didn't ask what he was doing, they just assumed he was using the phone.

He did fight it and got the ticket withdrawn. But it was a big mess and took several months. He had to get a bill and a statement from his cell phone provider to prove he was not making or receiving a call at the time.

Also, according to the info on the GPS Tablet, you have to pay a monthly fee to use it. I pay enough monthly fee for my phone.

Me peronally, I will stick to the old fasioned GPS units.

Keep it safe out here, the life you save might be your own. Joe S.

I saw this page on dieselboss.com, which compares three dedicated truck GPS devices:

http://www.dieselboss.com/truck_gps_review_features.htm

Holy crap, THANK YOU for this!! I had been looking at getting a Garmin nĂ¼vi from Amazon, but the very extensive comparison of feature sets up on that page have sold me on the Rand McNally 720 model. It looks to me like it's going to be worth every penny.

The Truckers Tablet GPS does not have a monthly fee to use. Dont know where you saw this but nope no fee at all.
