Wow ODFL is still around? Last I saw there equipment was run down and looked like they were going the way of CF. Basically meaning, union putting them out of business..... Don't know if they're union, but always suspected they were

Wow you are really ill informed. ODFL is one of the fastest growing companies in the business. Top of the line equipment and wages. But hey, never let facts get in your way right ?

ODFL is not union, never was.

ODFL actually acquired CF a ways back, ironic you mentioned CF.

That 2015 Volvo I was in yesterday sure felt "run down." Next time I'll make sure to step into one of our 2016 Volvos or Cascadias. It's tough to have these options every day when I go to pick a tractor .... smile.gif

Joking aside, I assure you ODFL is alive and well sir. I could care less what you think about the company, but I don't want you spreading misinformation on a public forum when somebody might benefit their family by choosing ODFL as their place of employment. Every company has their share of older tractors in the rotation. Perhaps you caught a glimpse of an old unit or are close to a smaller terminal that uses the hand-me-downs from bigger terminals. Do a little more research, and you'll see that ODFL is one of the most successful LTLs worldwide. A very healthy company that is continuing to grow and expand.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

LTL:

Less Than Truckload

Refers to carriers that make a lot of smaller pickups and deliveries for multiple customers as opposed to hauling one big load of freight for one customer. This type of hauling is normally done by companies with terminals scattered throughout the country where freight is sorted before being moved on to its destination.

LTL carriers include:

  • FedEx Freight
  • Con-way
  • YRC Freight
  • UPS
  • Old Dominion
  • Estes
  • Yellow-Roadway
  • ABF Freight
  • R+L Carrier

DWI:

Driving While Intoxicated

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
