Started school a week ago and prior to that studied the practice tests on this site for literally only a few days. I passed all the practice tests in school without missing any questions thanks in large part to what I'd learned here. The material in the classroom was more of a refresher to me after studying here. I already had my class B so today I only had to take the combination vehicle test at the dmv and passed easily. If you're interested in starting driving school I highly recommend using the cdl practice exams and study materials found on this site before going. It could make a huge difference in how well you do. The next two weeks will be in the field driving and practicing backing up. I feel very confident about it all.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Combination Vehicle:

A vehicle with two separate parts - the power unit (tractor) and the trailer. Tractor-trailers are considered combination vehicles.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

Congrats! What state are you in? I've been studying the practice test here too for 2 days now! I wanna get my permit before going to class.

Yay this is great news! I have been studying very hard since Wednesday to Today (Friday). The Barron CDL test book didn't work for me. I'm using the High Road Training program ever since then. I start trucking school this upcoming Monday.

I'm so glad it's working for you! I'm grateful that it work out for you because it gives me confidence that this program really does work. I spent 7 to 8 hours studying yesterday and I think it helps. I was going to take my written exam today but I got too caught up in studying and requesting to get a new social security card from the social security administration, so I didn't have time to do both. However I still can take my written exam tomorrow, but it will be my last day I can do it before I start school. I have prepared myself for the Class A CDL with Air Brakes Endorsements.

I'm in Tennessee. A guy who started class when I did already had his permit so instead of his first week being in the classroom with us he was outside getting hands on driving and inspection procedure experience with the class that started the week before we did. He's got a big headstart on the rest of us. Good luck no matter how you decide to do it.

Good luck Jordan. All the questions that were on my test today at the dmv were also in the study materials on this site. I will say though that if all you're doing here is memorizing the answers to the test you may still have issues with the hands on stuff. You do learn why the answers are what they are while you're in the classroom studying the book with an instructor. One thing that helped me was the fact that I already had my class B and had driven large passenger buses in the past and operated tractor/trailers in the military.
