TSA Approval, How Long To Take Hazmat?>

Well I and my wife did it the opposite way, hazmat endorsement and then submitted for the tsa clearance. It lasts five years in our case, and is submitted directly to the state for record.
I understand that when renewing your hme you have to fingerprint and submit again.
Best bet is probably looking at your states dmv for the information.
HAZMAT:

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.

Wish I could edit, what I typed wasn't very clear.
I should say I took the hazmat endorsement test at the dmv and passed. The dmv gave me a form to take to the place where they do the fingerprinting and what not for the tsa clearance. I did that and roughly a month later was mailed a license with the HM endorsement, which in the state of Texas is good for five years. It actually has the expiration of said endorsement on the back of the license.
If you are saying you did the tsa clearance before taking the hazmat test at the dmv I'm not sure how that works. I would assume for the same time frame. I don't think the letter itself is used for anything, the tsa clearance goes straight to the dmv (or they can access it at least).

In Arizona, I took the test at DMV , they issued me paperwork and sent me to another outfit that fingerprinted me. I needed to have my Social Security card, Birth Certificate and Driver License. Got my TSA approval in the mail about 30 days later. It will be on my hard copy license when I test out. Currently have my permit only. Start school on the 25th. Hope that helps.

I did the assesment first back in Nov.. Just wondering if its still valid of if I need to shed out the 86 bucks again to re-do it. since my hrs have been cut i now have the time to get it taken care of so figured maybe someone here would have the answer I needed... I'll keep looking around
Apparently Texas is different in that you get the application information for tsa's HTAP from the dmv as opposed to applying online or at an application center.
If you can't find the answer I'd just swing by the DMV and do the hazmat test, they should know if you are still good with the November HTAP or if you have to redo it.
When I was looking this up it looks like you can save some $ on the TWIC security threat assessment since you have done the STA for hazmat, assuming you find it is still good.

TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
David, I think I am a little confused. It sounds like you applied to the TSA for a background check prior to taking the written HazMat test at your State DMV? If that is the case I'm unsure how long that paperwork is good for. As stated in my above post, I needed to take the test first. This is what I found on the TSA website, but it pertains to the HazMat endorsement itself. I would assume you've seen this already.

Generally, you must renew your HME every five years, although some states may require more frequent reviews based on shorter license cycles. You will be required to submit new fingerprints at the time of renewal of the endorsement. Per state requirements, you may be required to satisfactorily complete written competency tests as a prerequisite to the issuance of a new, renewed, or transferred HME."

Well in IA, it doesnt matter when you take the test... You cant take the writen before or after doing the TSA finger print/background. I think i'll goto the DOT office after work tomorrow and see if it's still valid.. Im halfway through reading the High Road Training Program for hazmat, just gotta start doing the questions and get it imbedded in my mind... Thanks all for the info..

I got my Approval letter from the TSA for my hazmat , was just curious if anyone new how long it is valid for? I thought was 180 days from the date, but I can't find the page to confirm.
I noticed that TMC requires Hazmat, passport and twic 30 days after employment, wanna get these taken care of before I continue on with them.

Your TSA threat assessment is good for 5 years. Your DMV can access it without the letter through their state portal, but you may need the actual letter for the first time. You can obtain a new letter at any time as long as your threat assessment is current. So there is no time limit on the letter just the time limit on the threat assessment itself.
