There are excellent opportunitys with almost every carrier in the country! You'll find most extremely receptive to having you aboard. Although it's not a one size fits all answer. First look at all the information available for free here on TT. Brett and company have put a great amount of effort to give you the most vital information about all the major carriers.

First what type of freight do you want to haul? I have found that I do very well with being a reefer driver. Freight seems to be very consistent and their is plenty of opportunity to have decent miles per week. I that case I would look at Rohle, CR England, Stevens, Swift and Prime as viable options. Dry? Swift, Schneider, CRST just to name a few. You both will need to qualify for each individual company so you need to make sure you both fill out as many apps to the same ones and see if any disqualify either one of you. It may narrow your choices.

Is there a certain time we should apply during school or when we've graduated?

Your thread made me wonder, what if i want to team drive but don't have brother, relative or friends, do they just assign someone from the area to drive with me?

I drive team for Celadon with my boyfriend. Brian is right, most companies are going to welcome teams with open arms, so you have a lot of choices.

They will, but what are your reasons for wanting to drive team? For people who don't know each other prior to getting on the truck teaming isn't usually worth the headaches involved.

DAC:

Drive-A-Check Report

A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).

It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.

Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.

Mario, companies really, really like teams. Besides training, I've never driven team style. But most companies do their best to match you up with someone you can work well with.

Remember there's two of you living in a small box 24 hours a day. Better be some way to work/ live together.

Like Errol, I have only experienced team driving during my 6 weeks of road training. Sleeping on a truck that is moving at highway speeds was always an issue for me. There are drivers who can totally tolerate it. I am not one of them.

A quick search on "team driving" will net many archived threads on the subject. Type team driving in the search bar found in the upper left corner of each TT webpage. Press enter and it will return archived threads on the subject you chose, like the link below:

The tough reality of OTR team driving

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
