Hello, Truckers I decided to attend Southern State Community College Truck Driving Academy. After four long weeks of working weekend and attending school during the week I finally got my CDL. I passed the Pre-trip and skill test on first try. I failed my road test because I hit a curb on a tight turn on off ramp and had curbs on both sides. On the second try I passed with only 6 points. I am very happy with my results and ready for my new career. Glad to get out of warehousing work. I have a interview with Home Run INC tomorrow. Its a flatbed company and only 30 minutes from my house. I really enjoyed the school I went to and the instructors were awesome.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

I have my Swift evaluation tomorrow and State test on Friday.

Hey Sam...funny...I was just thinking about you. I just dropped a trailer in Washington Court House this morning. Congrats on getting your CDL A...good luck on your interview and new career.
