Dave, you'll do great. If I can do it so can you. Keep your head up and believe in yourself. We're all rooting for you!

That was an amazing video Darren! When I saw it had almost 6.8 million views I was like "Wow! This must be some talk!" And it was. For anyone with 20 minutes to spare, watch the whole thing. It gets better as she goes.

That kind of stuff has a profound affect on our lives and very few people realize it. Not only does it affect how we feel about ourselves, but it has a profound affect on how others view us.

It's funny because I get to use that kind of stuff every day with my animals. I raise steers, turkeys, and chickens here on my little homestead and over the years I've learned to understand the animals on a level where I can communicate or interact with them using nothing but tiny little gestures. Because animals have no spoken language like we do they rely heavily on reading physical clues and sensing the energy of those around them. So I can get them to move somewhere just by showing them the palm of my hand or raising one hand out to the side. I can get them to come to me by looking down at the ground and putting my hands behind my back. Just tiny little gestures and you'd be amazed at how well you can interact with them. After a while you feel like their reading your mind, and they basically are, but not through spoken language like people are used to.

Dogs are by far the most fun with that kind of thing because of their intelligence. They can read a much more elaborate set of clues and of course you can even teach them a whole language of physical clues beyond what their primal instincts inherently understand.

Back to that video, her theme was "fake it until you become it" and doing that is huge when it comes to interacting with people. Some people feel like your best friend 30 seconds after you meet them. Other feel like a menace the moment they walk into a room. Learning how to interact with people properly is life changing for a lot of people. If you had to follow a rule where you could never raise your voice or swear at anyone it would force you to be more thoughtful in how you communicate. It would force you to think about how you can best convey your thoughts and feelings when screaming or swearing (the normal way for a lot of people) isn't available. You would have no choice but to word things differently and use body language to help communicate your feelings. You would then become aware of just how many bad habits you have when you're interacting with people. I have been aware of this stuff for years and it's amazing the affect it has.

Now we have to help everyone understand that acting like a true professional out there on the highway and in your everyday life will cause people to treat you more like a true professional than they do now. That in turn will change how you see yourself and how you act in the future.

Dave, just do the best you can and let the chips fall where they may. If you pass you have to figure out your next step; if you fail you have to figure out your next step. Just don’t think of this test as the ultimate moment where if you don’t pass it’s all over. It’s not. Whatever happens you still have to figure out how to keep moving ahead in your trucking career.

Remember, just do the best you can. The rest is out of your control and there’s nothing you can do about it, so don’t sweat it. Afterall, you did the best you could.

Hello Dave,

As you read this I would like for you to begin taking your time as you read these words. Just slow down and as it was said, "take a deep breath". Now, let it out. See how easy that was? That's how easy it is going to be to take the test.

You said it yourself. You are just looking for reinforcement from us. Well, that is what we hope we are doing for you. Giving you what it is that you feel you need to pass this test and become the TRUCK DRIVER you are going to become. Everyone here is either going through what you are going through now or at some point in time has been through what you are going through now.

We can say a great deal of nice things and that's what we are doing. But, bottom line is that it is all up to you. I know you want this bad because I see it in your words. I can feel it as I read them. That's because I have been there. We all work ourselves up over nothing. It's in our nature. Especially when it is so important to us.

Well, here is a big secret I bet you didn't know. The fact that you have joined this forum, studied hard, worked hard and given this 100% + of yourself, I have GREAT confidence in you that you will do very well on your test and will be coming back here telling us all about it with all kinds of these smiley things to show us just how excited and relieved you are.

Don't cut yourself short Dave. You are already 95% finished. The test is just that last 5%. You can do it and I know you can. Now, you have to believe what I do. Do you believe it Dave? Do you believe it Dave? BELIEVE IT DAVE!

Good luck my fellow trucker!!!!

Can't wait to see the post.

Hey, don't sweat it. It doesn't mean a thing in the grand scheme of things. You go take the test again, pass, and get your picture on a beautiful new CDL. No big deal.

And don't forget, they have to fail some of the students or they wouldn't have a job for very long. So you gave him a handy excuse to fail you this time and the next time you'll ace it. He keeps his job, you get a new license, and everyone wins.

So no biggie. Look at this test as a practice and get out there and get it the next time. Simple as that.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
