Greeting everyone, I've recently decided to get into truck driving, as a career change. I got my CDL mid May and am now going though Schneider 3 week training program. So far I'm enjoying it immensely and looking forward to driving. I have been lurking on this forum for a few month and found it to be a great resource with a wealth of information. Thanks Mike

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Hey great to have ya Mike!

Interesting that Schneider's program is now three weeks. If I remember correctly it used to be like one or two weeks. It was super short.

There are a ton of great opportunities at Schneider once you've put in some time and proven yourself to be safe and reliable. You should be able to do really well there.

Welcome Mike. There was a driver who passed through the Forum a couple of months ago who wrote an extensive diary on Schneider. His name is Code Red. Worth a read...his stuff was both funny and informative. Good luck to you.
