I'm starting trucking school this Tuesday and considering fifth wheel trucking school in Fontana CA, I was just wondering if anybody has had any experience with them or know anyone who does. I'm considering them because they are affordable.

I plan on getting my cdl then driving my dads rig at night part time until a company will consider me and I can quit my full time job, so even if its not the best school at least I can say I have experience working part time.

Any help is much appreciated!

CDL:

  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Tony, I'm not familiar with that school but we have a lot of great information that will teach you how to evaluate a school:

And you shouldn't have to drive your dad's rig in order to land a job straight out of school. Since you're ready to start school, now is the time to begin applying to companies. Assuming your background is decent and you've chosen a good school you should have at least one or two jobs lined up before you even graduate.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Thank you Brett, but unfortunately due to my age (20) I need all the help I can get. I'm hoping after some time driving his truck a company will over look my age and hire me for for some local work, until I'm 21.

Oh I see! Yeah, if you're not going to be 21 when you graduate then you'll have to stay Intrastate for a short time until you are. Well that's cool that you'll have your dad's rig to get some experience in. Just be super careful and make sure you don't run into anything. That's all that matters. You'll be a little bit limited in your choice of companies because of your age. Even though you can drive Interstate when you're 21 a lot of companies require you to be anywhere from 22-25 so you definitely don't want any blemishes of any sort when it comes time to find a job elsewhere.

Interstate:

Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).

Intrastate:

The act of purchasers and sellers transacting business while keeping all transactions in a single state, without crossing state lines to do so.
