Hi everyone, how hard was it for you to decide which company to go with to start your career? I hate changing jobs. So I want to make a good decision. Even if it is just one OTR. How many times did you change your mind, before making a choice. 😂 I know enough to realize no company is perfect. The only thing I ask.from my future company is don't give up. I have not been in truck since 2009. Don't really know how I will react. 😂 Thanks for listening. Love this forum. Any input would be very appreciated.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

For me not too hard.. I considered maybe 4 companies in total.... 3 of which wouldn't let me start right away. I had to wait one year with the company I work for now. The other companies were making me wait at least 3 due to a speeding ticket etc

I think everyone goes through the phase of trying to decide on the one of many companies to choose from. My advice is to come up with some priorities that suit you. Think home time, pet policy, rider policy, benefits, pay, training, etc. Then narrow it down from there.

Also consider what you want to pull. Most people start out with dry van , reefer or flatbed. There is no unicorn company out there with zero negative reviews and 100 retention. Go with a company that offers what you need and what you want to accomplish.

Dry Van:

A trailer or truck that that requires no special attention, such as refrigeration, that hauls regular palletted, boxed, or floor-loaded freight. The most common type of trailer in trucking.

Reefer:

A refrigerated trailer.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
