I had a good conversation with my granddad the other day and he was talking about his favorite route driving for Morton's Salt way back in the day. He said it was "a little tough" in the summer when he overnighted in Louisiana. I asked " didn't they let you idle?". He said, "why would I idle, there was no A.C."

LOL.. I have 2 vehicles the 1987 has AC but the 1990 does not. Yes long ago they had 2-55 AC. Two windows down at 55 mph. Oh and to hoping you got something with wing windows. That would really get the air moving. That is why you see in the movies a lot of trucks that had a fan mounted to the dash or overhead.

When I was a puppy I rode a lot with a family friend in his truck. He said they would sometimes drive as a team but without a sleeper. The one not driving would kneel on the floor of the passenger side facing backwards. Then he could lay his head on the seat.

Big rigs back in the day didn't have power steering either. That's why the steering wheels on big rigs used to be so gigantic - so you could get enough leverage to turn it.

Can you imagine trying to turn the wheel without power steering when you have 12,000 pounds on that axle???

I love listening to his stories of the way things were back then. He won't talk about all the stuff voluntarily, but ask him a few questions and he will talk about it for hours.
