I was so used to my power locks that locked automatically when I shut off my car, that my trainer wanted to smack me cause I never locked the truck door.

Turn signals not self canceling. I used to get all confused when the car would cancel the turn signal after being in the truck for awhile!

Switching back and forth from my Ranger to my Freightliner

I have a 1998 Ford Ranger that I bought new in 1998. It has around 260k miles on it. At 200k miles I replaced the engine, and the transmission clutch wasn't even half worn out. It's a five speed. I can (could) drive the truck in my sleep, and before becoming a truck driver, I could count on one hand the total number of times I ever ground gears on the transmission.

My Freightliner is a 8-speed.

The differences between transmissions still drive me a little nuts whenever I go on, or return from home time.

Reverse in the Freightliner is where 1st gear is on the Ranger. Reverse in the Ranger is where 4/8th gear is on the Freightliner.

If that's not bad enough, the gasoline engine of the Ranger is at a much higher RPM than the Freightliner's diesel engine when it is at a good shifting speed, partly because diesel engines are lower RPM, and partly because the Ranger has 5 forward gears, not 8/9. I bog down the Ranger shifting too early, and frequently hit 1700 RPM in the Freightliner when I swap vehicles.

Also, there's how one actually starts from a full stop. The Ranger needs gas to get into gear. The Freightliner does not, if I start it in an appropriate gear. Again, bogging, or clutch slipping.

Also, sitting in the Ranger now feels like I'm dragging my butt down the road. It's so low to the ground.

I will leave it to your imagination how careful I have to be when I go from one vehicle to the other.
