Well best of Luck To You! I know how getting "present life" organized and packed away is. Time for this ol' gal to move on and live life away from a man that I was suspossed to team with. :-(

And best of luck to YOU, too..keep in touch and on the forum...I can already tell that these guys are becoming like a second family..good-luck.gif

Thanks Guy, I finally did talk with someone and he said they do not have a school, they do have a training program but you have to have your CDL License first. So I talked with my recuiter at Central this morning and I am just going to go with them. Should be heading to Georgia, then Salt Lake City in about a month! Can I say nervous and excited all at the same time!

Actually I did speak to Knight today and they do offer CDL Training. Its 3 wks and then they send you to your home state and you test out w/a third party tester and get your CDL then its 4 weeks of driving with a trainer. You get paid 400 per week beginning with your initial 3 wks. The only thing I can think of is it is possible they are not hiring out of the area you live in but I would check in to it. Good Luck

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Jeff who do I ask to speak to? Do you have an extension number for a specific person, cause they sure told me they didn't have a school. That you had to get your license first, then they would train you and it was actually with Squire. the number I called was 717 249 0814, I never got the opportunity to speak with Nina, Laddie, or Denney. that pay during training sounds great

Company-sponsored Training:

A Company-Sponsored Training Program is a school that is owned and operated by a trucking company.

The schooling often requires little or no money up front. Instead of paying up-front tuition you will sign an agreement to work for the company for a specified amount of time after graduation, usually around a year, at a slightly lower rate of pay in order to pay for the training.

If you choose to quit working for the company before your year is up, they will normally require you to pay back a prorated amount of money for the schooling. The amount you pay back will be comparable to what you would have paid if you went to an independently owned school.

Company-sponsored training can be an excellent way to get your career underway if you can't afford the tuition up front for private schooling.

Thanks Brett, that is where I got the contact number and I have read about all the companies there. It is just when I called Knight, I always had to leave a message and no one has ever returned my call! I just now called Squire and left yet another message, hopefully they will call me back, if not I will try again tomorrow. I like the idea of the paid trainng for all of it, not just OTR pay. But we will see if they contact me! Fingers crossed! If not, I have chosen Central, and have a recuiter that I am working with.sorry.gifsorry.gif

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

I called the 800 489-2000 I live in Utah and that is one of the states that have a terminal amoungst many other so I think that is key. Try that # I got an answwr first try.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
