You definitely got the shaft on that deal. I figured it would be beneficial to get some winter driving with a trainer. I've turned my fair share of coal into diamonds in Iraq and Afghanistan hahahaha.

I also forgot Maverick is also a good starting Flatbed Company. So is McElroy. R E West is a flatbed, dry van , hvy haul out of Ashland City. R E West was still trying to get their apprenticeship program approved thru VA. Not sure where they are at with it.

TMC and Maverick are slightly anal retentive. TMC about their trucks and Maverick about their tarp jobs. TMC wants their truck white glove ready. You can pick out a Maverick tarp job a mile away.

Dry Van:

A trailer or truck that that requires no special attention, such as refrigeration, that hauls regular palletted, boxed, or floor-loaded freight. The most common type of trailer in trucking.

Yea I've seen a few of the Dale YouTube videos. I think maverick only has a 1 year apprenticeship program though. It would be tough throwing 15k in BAH out as opposed to the 2 year programs.

As for the tarps and clean trucks, I don't think that would be a big deal for me. It would probably be a lot tougher if I started somewhere that was a lot more relaxed. I've heard TMC may require more straps or chains than what is required. Either way, as long as they are signing my checks I'm going to do it the way they want.

You do realize that with the apprenticeship program BAH allotment degrades over time. You won't get the full BAH the whole time. As you gain experience it gets less. After the first year you are getting like 1/3 and less of the BAH. At that point your basically using up your G I benefits for a measly few hundred bucks a month. Just food for thought.

I did not realize that! Hmmmm that just makes choices harder now thanks! I'm just kidding but seriously the 2 years of full bah was a big factor in my decision.

You are honestly looking at about 6 months of full at best. It drops off fairly quickly after that. I am doing the apprenticeship program with Wolding. It takes a few months for it to kick in and even then it is not like clockwork on the first. It hits more mid monthish.

Go figure. Quick to take it from you when you owe, slow as molasses when they owe.

At the end of the day I know it's not the name on the side of the truck starting out but having a good recommendation from a close friend goes a long way.

I figured you would be better off going in eyes wide open. Nothing worse than trying to clear a room on a moonless night and you forgot to take your daylight cover off your nods.

Most definitely and I do appreciate it. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get closer. Thanks again!

No worries. If you ever have any questions feel free to text or hit me up on forum. I may be slow with responding to text or forum though as it all depends on my schedule before I am able to get to them.
