Well, I am going to miss my first appointment. A vehicle passing me kicked up a rock the nearly shattered my windshield. Almost punched a 1 in hole in my window. Glass is broken on inside and out. Causing cracks to spider across my window. In the 6 miles I drove to the nearest exit, cracks grew from a few inches to a foot on a few of them.

This stinks!!!! I am stuck sitting until Saturday at the TA exit 87 on I-95 until Safelight can show up to fix it.

Two days to replace a windshield? That sucks.

That does suck.

At least Savannah has some mild weather for you. And at least your first missed appointment was not due to an error on your part.

I know there was nothing I could do, but the rock seemed to move in slow motion as I saw it bounce of the road, clear my hood the arc down into my window. Then the loud crack brought everything back to real time.

I've encountered rocks like that before...

... and one turkey as well. I really thought that it would end up in the seat next to me if not in my lap.

Just make sure you've called your dm , so it won't be an unreported late appointment.....but I'm sure you've already done that so... moving along....😊

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

You've missed a HUGE thing. On your first load you didn't kill yourself or anyone else when the rock came hurling your way.

It takes some getting used to to not instinctively react by turning and swaying, which could kill someone when done in these trucks.

You just proved to your FM that you can handle yourself and the rig safely, as well as make the necessary contacts to correct the problem.

Well done!!!

No swerving, just took the rock head on. I considered pulling off to the side, but I knew an exit was only a few miles up the road. Better to wait until I get out of traffic. I still mostly had a windshield. Although doubts did cross my mind when I saw the cracks spreading, lol.

It is definitely not my first load, just the first one I won't make my delivery time. Actually according to my TransFlo Mobile+ App it is my 24th load after I went solo, lol.

Not the first time I have had rocks hurled my way either. About a month ago, a dump truck cut to close in front of me dropping rocks. My passenger window has a nice 1/4" chip in it from that.

I just checked my paperwork. The last update I did must of deleted a bunch of loads. 24 seemed awefully low. It is my 47th load. ;)

A brief update on my situation. I began searching local smaller companies and 'mom n pop' operations. Found an independent contractor to do the job. Of course all this was done at the behest of and with the blessing of my company's shop department. I will be back going this afternoon. Yay!! CS already stated as long as I get to my location before Monday (I will be there late tonight) there is a MT trailer available for me. So I can just Drop n Hook. Unfortunately Load Planners are still trying to figure out what they are gonna do. So far the best plan was run me 400 miles deadhead. That got scrapped for now while they search for an alternative. My company doesn't like deadheading us more than 100 miles or so. It costs them fuel and I get paid the same no matter how they have me run.

Drive Safe Y'all and God Speed

Deadhead:

To drive with an empty trailer. After delivering your load you will deadhead to a shipper to pick up your next load.
