Well after 11 months of OTR with West Side Transport, I finally got to see how a DOT Inspection works. Of course it was an easy pass.

I love working for a company with a great CSA score and well maintained equipment. That means I'm not driving down the road with a DOT bullseye on the side of my truck.

My codriver who has been with WST 3 years came with many years of experience but with a crappy personal CSA score because his previous employer's scores weren't real good so he got many inspections and they always managed to find stuff wrong with the equipment. Last week we happened to run into his former boss and she was begging him to come back and bring me too... lol, Absolutely not.

Many people will say a company's CSA score isn't that important, but I disagree with that!

Happy rolling everyone and keep the shiny side up. We're headed to upstate NY.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

CSA:

Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA)

The CSA is a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) initiative to improve large truck and bus safety and ultimately reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities that are related to commercial motor vehicle

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Do y'all get bonus's for clean inspections? Some companies give those.

Nice to work for a company that maintains it's gear.

Rick

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

That's awesome. Sadly my first level 1 and 2 inspections came one after the other. Talk about luck. Got put out of service for one and the other a citation for a cut in the sidewall of a trailer tire. My half ass pti have definitely caught up with me. Been learning the hard way, but learning none the less.
