I had dental surgery and was prescribed two days worth of Vicoden almost six weeks ago, and I threw the bottle away already. I just found out that they'll be taking a hair sample so should I get a letter from my dentist? I can't seem to get a straight answer on this from the recruiter. Thanks.

You are going to be asked to fill out a form concerning medications that you are or have been taking. So, yes get that letter or a copy of the prescription from your dentist. You will be fine, but you really should have that documentation with you just in case there is any questions.

When it comes to narcotics yes. Also anything else you have taken blood pressure med school ect ect you might want to get notes for those also.

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Thanks. Seems unlikely that anyone my age would be hooked on the Vike (late -60's) and I'd have to verify my usage but yeah, DOT and safety, I get it. (And Old School - it is inspiring to see another man, seemingly of an age as me, flatbedding!) Old guys rule.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

You know how "old guys" are, they always have a story to tell ya!

Well, here's a story that might interest you...

Probably about three years ago now I was down in Pineville, TX at a lumber mill picking up a load of plywood. I was throwing my straps onto my load when another truck which had just gotten loaded pulled up beside me. Out of the cab there gingerly climbed down the steps an "older" gentleman who was somewhat stooped over and moving like he had seen better days. I couldn't keep myself from going over and engaging him in some conversation as I helped him with his load. He was eighty two years old! I asked him how long he had been doing this and he simply said, "all my life!" I then asked him when he thought he would give it up? He was an owner operator , and his response was, "Well, when this old truck gives out, then I'm going to quit too! I just can't afford another one!"

Glad to have you joining our ranks, but I hope you and I don't have to do this until we are in our eighties! Now if we are enjoying it and want to be doing it, well that's another story. I still enjoy it everyday, and I hope you will too.

Owner Operator:

An owner-operator is a driver who either owns or leases the truck they are driving. A self-employed driver.

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated
