Highway use taxes, fuel taxes, Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (annual for every unit on the road), tolls - all of this revenue is supposed to support the infrastructure.

The key word there is "supposed". Yeah, our infrastructure is on the decline. Unfortunately, we have quit holding our Representatives in Elected Office responsible!

From http://www.theleafchronicle.com/story/news/2017/01/30/mcclure-bridge-get-repairs-plans-new-bridge-move-froward/97054856/

While signs had been put in several locations, including Hwy. 48/13 at Zinc Plant Road on one side and Hwy. 149 on the other side, the state can't detour trucks to a county road or bridge, so it will be up to the truck drivers to decide whether to use the Cunningham Bridge on Zinc Plant Road as an alternative, he said.

"It's going to be troublesome, I guess," Pisarra said. "We're just looking out for the safety of the public,"

I can't remember for certain but there may be a route from somewhere around the Waverly area. There used to be a ferry down river but you do not want to take a truck down to it.

List looked at a Google map and 13 runs into 49 in Cunningham then south to Cumberland furnace.. I do not know about bridges on that route.

I used to listen to a nationwide radio program overnight on local station WLW. The host went by the name Trucking Bozo, maybe someone remembers it. Anyway, those many years ago truckers were always calling into complain about police traps and stupid regulations in Tennessee. I remember there being a lot of rolling roadblocks and stuff in protest. That doesn't sound like this is one of those situations though.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
