So what companies are good that will not only offer training but will allow my wife and pet cat to travel with me full time? And how long before they will allow her and the pet to go with me? And are any of them allowing my wife and pet to be with me 365 a year where we would not actually have to have a home base. At 58 my wife and me married 26 years no kids want to travel and do this. But she will never drive no way at all ever I assure you of that. We would like it to be the two of us and our pet full time driving. I hear and read horror stories of all companies as you all know also and then same companies some love. So any advice and answers I will appreciate.

thank you Ron Phoenix Arizona

Ron...you will need a company that has a rider policy and a pet policy...But to get to that point ...you need to apply to schools !!! here's a link Truck Driving Schools. When you apply to them, you can ask (if they are a trucking company) if they have a pet and rider policy, and what time line they have. If its a CDL school, then you will be applying for employment after you get your cdl...then you can use this link Apply For Truck Driving Jobs..After you apply at a trucking company be sure and call them back...they are busy, so you bug em. Your a ways from there, but you are on the right track. You can pick your cdl school going thru a trucking company, but even if they have a rider and pet policy, remember, you will need to be there around a year,,to pay back your schooling tuition, AND to get the experience you need to look good to other companies, should you want to move on....So pick carefully, whoever you choose to go with....

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Ron I see you are in AZ. You can look into Knight Transportation. They have both a rider and pet program and also have training in AZ. might be worth a phone call.

This website has a list of trucking companies that allow pets so check that out.
