And now we return you to your regularly scheduled post...

I am truly homeless. No car either. I live in my truck. I have 1 son in San Diego another in New Orleans and my daughter loves in Pensacola FL. I can choose which one I want to visit and my FM routes me as near as he can get me. 3 weeks out = 3 days, hometime.

Fm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Kanelin, that's exactly what I'm looking to do. Is that working out pretty well for you? I know there are always unexpected things that arise but generally is that working out as you planned? Ideally I would love to have my days off (once every month+/-) alternate between my son at whatever continental Army base he is stationed at and Western Maryland where I have a few friends.

Kanelin and I have the same.FM. I can say without a doubt in a year I have only missed a home time by one day. I usually tell him a couple weeks ahead...and sometimes I'll tell him "this date is really important" and other times I'll say "get me.around the date..whatever is easiest for you".

I'd imagine it is like that at most OTR companies. And pretty much wherever you want to go for.home time. Florida? Vegas? Myrtle beach? VA beach? The large carriers have customers everywhere ;)

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Are weekend days off harder to get than weekdays?

I find weekends are easier to get off than weekdays although neither is particularly difficult. Understand there are a significant amount of shippers and receivers that are closed during the weekends.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.
