Service Failures?

So a friend of mine was recently telling me his dispatcher was threatening him with a service failure when he called to inform him he was fatigued and about to shut down to get some rest. I told him to tell his dispatcher to get bent and call human resources which is what i would do if i was ever threatened to push through a unsafe situation. My question to y'all is do service failures show up on your DAC? I've never had one because when hauling pods you schedule your own ETA's and i usually wait till im within an hour away to call and setup a time. Just curious because it seems like a lot of dispatchers like to threaten drivers with service failures.

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DAC:

Drive-A-Check Report

A truck drivers DAC report will contain detailed information about their job history of the last 10 years as a CDL driver (as required by the DOT).

It may also contain your criminal history, drug test results, DOT infractions and accident history. The program is strictly voluntary from a company standpoint, but most of the medium-to-large carriers will participate.

Most trucking companies use DAC reports as part of their hiring and background check process. It is extremely important that drivers verify that the information contained in it is correct, and have it fixed if it's not.

Make sure ALL COMMUNICATIONS ARE ON THE QUALCOMM.

On the phone it's a he said/he said. QUALCOMM gets logged. NO DISPATCHER will threaten a driver, when the driver reports he is too fatigued to continue. Though, it may, in fact end up being a SERVICE FAILURE, that's still no reason to drive fatigued. Take the SF and move onto the next load - if that's the way it ends up.

Service failures DO NOT SHOW UP on your DAC.

And the appointment time is missed REGARDLESS OF EXCUSE (aside from breakdown or bad weather/accident/road closure) it's a SERVICE FAILURE.

But if you get terminated due to too many of them - the termination will - but not necessarily the SPECIFIC REASON. That will (likely) be disclosed when the next employer calls for a reference (despite it being questionably legal to give a specific reason).

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. My question would be did your friend trip plan well? I add in nap time to my trips...zoning out isn't good. Utilizing 8/2 splits is another good way to fight fatigue. Drive four to five hours then break. Drive another four hours then break.

Unfortunately we all get fatigued. Telling dispatch before you get the load is much better than being late.

Is it a service failure? Sure. Is it the end of the world? No. And are you sure the person truly "threatened".... Cause he could have been stating a fact.

I usually get tired during bad weather...and if that is the case your friend needs to tell dispatch immediately of any bad weather.
