Now,i'm ready to start looking into pre-trip information and waiting to start my driving section with my trainer. I'm watching many pre-trips on you-tube,Daniel's pre-trip(I love it) and some brochures from my school. I'm trying to take some from every material I have and get as much information as I can. Is it good idea or should I wait for school to train my how to do it by their standards? Thank you for any advice...

I say study what you can, just know wherever you go to school, either company sponsored or not they will have their own way of doing the pre-trip. So it's good to get a heads up, but once you go to school study what they tell you. Most likely they will be teaching you exactly what to say or do for the cdl test.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Great job I got my CDP permit too. I thought about taking tracker and Hazmat . I have my application for my passport to turn in. I got my TWIC card too. I don't know if it will help me make more money. But it won't hurt.

HAZMAT:

Hazardous Materials

Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
