Some Insights From Other Drivers

Hey everyone

I've been wanting to hear some advice from other drivers on a turn I made yesterday in Wisconsin, coming all the way from Oconomowic to Wrightstown. I had to take the country roads(According to my GPS) to get to Wrightstown, I think this was going on 83-WI to get to I-41 North. I come up to this right turn that involved me getting into the left turn lane because if I didn't my trailer was gonna clip something on the right. From the left was obvious traffic and on my right there was a hill where any oncoming drivers probably wouldn't stop, when I made this turn there was no oncoming traffic fortunately and on my left the signal light was red for them. I felt like I got real lucky here and told myself if I leave Oconomowic again I'd rather take I-94 E to I-41 N because it would've felt much safer.

These roads were also legal when I checked the atlas as well.

So from other drivers, did I do the right thing getting into the left turning lane to make a right turn? If not how would you have done it?

I don't know if you were right or wrong. However, it has been said here that it's a good idea to check your intersections on google maps using satellite view.

I have to guess, Cory. I used Google maps, found Oconomowic & Wrightstown. Do you mean a right turn in Hartford? That's a 4-lane to a 4-lane turn. Most right turns on surface streets do require at least two lanes to get a successful turn.

If the intersection gets many trucks, the local drivers are used to giving you extra room. I remember a 2-lane to 2-lane right turn I had to do in a small town. I started out hugging the center line, people on the other did stop back or even back up so that I could avoid clipping the light post right on the curb.

Your alternative, going to Milwaukee, would really take too long.

If you can, share the intersection location from your Google maps here.
