I've had an interest in trucking since I was quite little. My grandfather was a truck driver. I've put a lot more serious thought into it the last couple of years now. I'm 27. I'm trying to decide the best company to go through. I'll most likely look to do truck driving school through the company. I've been thinking a lot about Celadon. Is that a good one to start with? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really enjoy this site and all that it offers.

I guess you haven't heard about the trouble Celadon is in? There is another thread in this forum with a link to an article. Also, you can Google them to find out more. Here is our starter package.

And Paid CDL Training Programs. I hope that helps.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Welcome to the ranks of "posting" Josh. You have been on here a while, not sure if you have read the information available,...but for the most part finding the best company to start your career with can be summed up with' "what do you really want?" What kind of freight, equipment, job type, geography, road-training, home-time, and last but not least, pay. The other important element is living within the hiring area for a particular company.

You have lots of options. The following links may help you decide on the best path:

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Thank you. I've been reading a lot on here over the last couple of days. I've been doing a lot of research on different companies. I think I'm going to apply to WilTrans.
