I'm Fixing The Lost Photos In The Forum

The short version: I'm running a program now that is fixing all of the images in the forum that were lost when the photo sharing sites pulled the plug.

Here's the story:

We've had tons of people submit photos to the forum over the years through various photo sharing websites. As many of you know, these websites pulled the rug out from under everyone. After years of promoting that their sites were free, they waited until they had millions of photos being shared all across the globe and then suddenly, without warning, shut off their photo sharing unless you started paying for their service. Without a doubt it was dirty pool. Websites all over the world now had blank images. People who spent months and years of their lives uploading their precious memories suddenly couldn't share them anymore. In our case, we had almost 4,000 blank images throughout the forum.

Fortunately when I built this forum I suspected something like this might happen so all along I've been storing our own copy of these photos. Well I wrote a program that is now going through the forum and replacing all of the broken images with our own copy.

Now this only applies to images in the comments, not to your avatars. A few days ago I set up a system for you to upload photos for your avatar so go to your profile now to do that.

The last piece of this puzzle is to create a system that allows you to upload photos for forum comments and that won't be long. I don't think I'll have it ready before the holiday but it's a top priority when I get back from visiting with family. Then we'll never, ever need photo sharing sites again!

BMI:

Body mass index (BMI)

BMI is a formula that uses weight and height to estimate body fat. For most people, BMI provides a reasonable estimate of body fat. The BMI's biggest weakness is that it doesn't consider individual factors such as bone or muscle mass. BMI may:

  • Underestimate body fat for older adults or other people with low muscle mass
  • Overestimate body fat for people who are very muscular and physically fit

It's quite common, especially for men, to fall into the "overweight" category if you happen to be stronger than average. If you're pretty strong but in good shape then pay no attention.

I went back to several Backing Practice™ entries. They're operational again!.

Is it possible to put those in a blog for easier reference? (I have a complete list of web addresses.)

Excellent!

Yeah, email me the list of links and I'll put together a tag for it in the forum and I'll see where else I can put the list.
