As you may know, I trained and drive for CFI. I have been solo for about seven months now. I am very happy with CFI and the way I am treated. We have plenty of miles and a very new fleet. Here is a link to my CFI Training Diary. I have also posted pics of my pay. From mid May through December 2017, I grossed a little over $24,000.00. For me that's great money. My last two weeks I had a gross of just over $1000.00 each. CFI may not be the highest paying company, but you can get all the miles you can drive. I have also built up just over five PTO days. Needless to say, I am a totaly biased fan.

Thanks Big Scott, I am also going to be contacting them as well to see what they have to offer. I am trying to find the best possible fit for me.

Hey Big Scott, I sent the CFI people a request to contact me so we will see what happens next. I loved reading the Diary of your schooling, very informative. Good Job. Glad you are doing well.

Hey Chuck. Take your time, do your research, ask as many questions as you can. The link I found was on my mobile phone so I'm glad you found the actual link. There's plenty of resources on this very site. Here are some helpful ones:

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

BTW I'm in the same boat you're in. I narrowed my choices down to four. Was approved to attend the paid training programs with all of them but am going with my primary choice. I was actually told I didn't qualify by the first recruiter I spoke to, contacted three other companies & was approved by all three. I decided to try my primary choice again, spoke to a different recruiter & was approved. I'll be starting orientation on March 5th. Be your very best advocate. Listen to the wisdom that's available here. Some may be raw & direct but it's from many years of experience of driving & dealing with many rookies on here & on the road. I forgot the link for the high road training program on here too. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the tips. I am trying to do any research I can to make a sound decision. It can be mind boggling to go over all the info. I just keep asking questions and reading as much as possible.

I actually put together a spreadsheet so I could see in one place what the different companies offered. For me, it was about length of training, tuition reimbursement, training pay, and if I could bring my partner. Find out what matters to you and the right company will come along.

I still have a couple more to chat with, one of the ones I liked called Continental Express based out of Sidney OH has a lot to offer new drivers but they do not come this far Northeast for me to be able to come home reasonably. That is a little discouraging but I am going to keep looking.

Misty, I just wanted to point out that pretty much anyone will let you bring one adult with you, and the rest are all very short term or almost trivial factors that really won't make much difference in the end. Beyond the passenger policy I wouldn't consider any of the other three as primary factors for choosing a company. Those should be way down the list at tiebreakers, really.

Home time options, the type of freight they haul, pay and benefits after one year with the company, and other options they may have for dedicated fleets or other types of freight should all be important considerations. Think long term.

Thanks, Brett. It may be foolish, but my decision was based on my gut. I was looking into all these companies, but when I got the call from Prime, I was stoked. For no reason that I could think of. I looked into it and there were a few things that really hammered it in for me. First was the in-truck training, then was the starting and continuing pay, and then there was Rainy's account of training. Now I'm all doubtful that I picked the right place! lol, but it feels right. I can't deny that feeling. Everything I've learned about Prime since then has only increased my excitement. I hope that makes sense and doesn't make me an idiot. I appreciate your feedback.

So I am currently waiting to discuss a few more things with the recruiter of CFI and I may just be on my way to Joplin Missouri to train for them. I like the things they have to offer and the miles that I can potentially get with them. They have good benefits as well and that is a necessity in this day and age. I have to give props to Big Scott for giving me the scoop on his experience with them and how they have treated him during his employment which is still going on. I am looking forward to getting my career started and eager to learn what I need to so that I can become a great driver. I will keep you all updated on this journey along the way.
