In case you didn't know, wind is a problem in Wyoming. At the beginning of this week I was going from Colorado to Idaho, with a 28,000 pound load, and spent 3 days shut down due to wind. Now I have a 44,000 pound load of beans. It's low and loaded almost to the doors. Now, I'm trying to decide if I should go or sit. Currenty a section of I80 is closed ahead of me. How much wind is to much?

It's the seat of your pants and your gut. You know when you're too uncomfortable to try it. Their term for Road Closed To Light and High-Profile Vehicles policy is wide open to interpretation in WY. You CAN drive, but if you get into a crash situation, you can be charged with a violation at the LEO's discretion. I refer to that area as the Bermuda Triangle during the winter months: SEP thru MAY.

Wyoming can be a tough one. I had to take I70 from Denver to Us6 to get to salt lake city last week due to wind, thankfully i70 was dry and pretty.

Sorry man, I can't even imagine that winds can be that bad. I have never experienced wind like that. I would have to say the best bet is to sit even one wouldn't want to but it is far better than crashing. Those of us who ride motorcycles use the term, "crashing sucks". Be safe brother.

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Made it with zero problems. I was at 77,000 gross and didn't feel the wind. I did take the less windy US 30 from Laramie to Cheyenne. At one point I had to stop at a weigh station where you had to bring your papers in. When I got out of the truck, the wind almost knocked me over. Didn't even feel it in the truck.

The part that usually has the worst wind is elk mountain. Which is the part the is closed to light high profile right now. Alternate route is hwy 30 from Walcott to Laramie. It's about 15 miles longer, part of it is 2 lane and some 4 lane with a few small towns to slow down for. Winds will be less but it will still be windy.

My mistake, it was Walcott to Laramie.
