So yesterday I was scheduled to pick up a load of oil in Memphis. I know this shipper is super strict on appointment times so I decide to roll in about 15 minutes early. I’m feeling good about timing it just right and go to check in. The guard informs me my appointment was actually for Wednesday and not Thursday and that I would have to be worked in and it was doubtful I would even be able to load today.

At this point I am livid on the inside. However I just smile and say I understand and show her on my Qualcomm app where Prime sent me the wrong appointment time. Now a lot of drivers would blow their top and probably have some choice words for the guard who has absolutely nothing to do with setting appointments but I just told her thank you and I understand if you can get me worked in I would love you forever. She shot me a smile back and told ne to hang on a second.

I have a seat in the lobby and she comes back and told me they suddenly had a “cancellation” and they would load me right now. So I ended up being in and out within and hour. I seriously am doubting they had a sudden cancellation while I was standing there but even if they really did I can promise you that if I would have showed out and thrown a fit I would not have gotten that slot and they would of seen to it I sat all day and possibly all night with no detention pay.

So even in the worst of times just smile and hold it in and things will usually work themselves out.

Shipper:

The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

Absoutely, great job. Reminds me of a time in a shipping office a driver came in from a major carrier dressed in pajama pants. He hadn’t showered in awhile either. He had the same issue you did. Right time wrong day. He immediately started throwing a fit and using profane language. The lady looked at me and said just a minute. I told her no problem, take care of what you need to. We were in the middle of printing my bills when he came in, he said excuse me I have a pickup. So not only did he butt in, he got nasty about his situation. She walked to the back and came back about 10 minutes later with a security officer. She sat down and apoligized to me and the security officer escorted the driver off the property.

For all the new folks here. Customers don’t have to let you on their property which doesn’t set well with companies. You can and will get barred if you can’t behave yourself.

Great job. Haveing the right info at your finger tips, the right attitude and reading their signs pays off well. I once got bumped ahead of someone who didn't have all the info he needed to pick up the load.
