So after researching, looking and researching, talking and all of the other things recommended, I have made a decision to go with Stevens Trucking School out of Spring, TX. This is operated under the Lone Star College system and since it is only 10 miles from where I live - will be doable as far as transporting myself for the first weeks. I understand the rest of the classes are held in Dallas and that is okay too - Dallas is about 4.5 hours from Tomball.

So now, here is a dumb question.... why would you want to pick up 100 lbs when you could use a dolly to move same amount. Is this allowed?

I believe it's more of a stress test if you're talking about the physical you have to take. It's less about you being able to lift the weight as it is seeing how your body reacts to the strain.

That and sometimes a dolly just isn't available unless you have one stashed in your cab.

When do you start?

JAN 20. Gives me enough time to work out a two week notice and get going. What about you?

13 Jan, gave my employer a 2 month notice and he still hasn't found anyone to replace me. I work in a small town, about 2500 people.

It was official until I took the physical this afternoon and failed due to my blood pressure jumping all over the board from 164/81 to 186/81. Geez... now I have to go to the doctor get medication, get it leveled out (never had to blood pressure stuff before) and then return. Ugh....

Not to worry. Most folks as they age (yes I am one of the "OLD" folks) need to take something to regulate your blood pressure.

Yap, no big deal at all. A minor delay, but that's about it. And hey, now you're eliminating a danger you didn't know was creeping around so that's great too! And you're in good company. I think most of the trucking industry runs on coffee and blood pressure meds.
