Dear fellow truckers, me and my wife are wanting to do some team driving. She has no experience, I have 1 yr otr and 4 yrs local(straight). She want to drive an automatic truck only. What would be some good company options.

I do have a criminal record from 26 years

Thanks for the help and insight.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

My opinion would be to go to a large company for whatever their required duration and then train her. it could save you aggravation.

for example, if you came.to.prime, you would have to work here i think 3 months because you already have experience. Spouses are not required to be locked into the 1 year contract for schooling. So go to prime or any training company and then train her.

otherwise she will have to go.through permit phase and possibly team train with a stranger. how would either of you handle that?

She would still need her permit and DOT medical first. At CFI she could train on an automatic and our fleet is automatic. Our trucks have SiriusXM radios, inverters, curtains for the front and back. Our training is now 3 weeks of school and a minimum of 7500 miles with a trainer. While with a trainer you are dispatched as a solo truck. You drive and the trainer is in the passenger seat. Companies that have teams love married teams. They tend to get along better and it's easy to give them home time. Good luck.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Each company is different. if she went with CFI she needs a permit and med card, if she they went with prime she would get it at the company.

so choose a company first, then get the details. as for automatics, most larger companies are going auto so that shouldnt be a problem.
