Hi everyone,

It's been a really long time since I have posted anything on here but I have continued to read posts. I just wanted to update everyone with me. For the past several years I have thought about driving and at the end of June this year I decided to do it and started training at the KLLM academy in Jackson, MS. I completed their 3 week course and obtained by Class A CDL and have completed 4 weeks of my OTR training. I am on home time now and only have one week left til I upgrade to my own truck. This has been a great experience and I have driven in situations and places I could only imagine. Although the time away from the wife and kids is hard, it will be worth it to provide them a great life. (and driving is so much fun). Anyways, that's all I really have for now. I hope to be more active in the future. Until next time, stay safe everyone!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Congratulations Joshua!

Definitely stay in touch with us. There will be times when you are going to have questions, times when you want to throw in the towel, times when you just want to vent, and maybe a few times when you are ready to strangle someone! We can help with all of that stuff. We've all been there.
