My head instructor at my school is from the UK, and he has some funny wit. But has the patience of Job. He taught us that driving here and driving in UK is different because you Brits drive on the wrong side of the road. LOL. I spent 3 years there, and saw a lot of Lorries on the roads. I don't know haw they treat your equivalent of a CDL. But it shouldn't be too much of a problem catching up.
Good Luck!

Welcome Louie!
You're going to have some problems getting into a truck driving job here. They don't issue work visas for truck driving jobs, so that's one problem. Your current level of licensing will mean nothing here, and most states require that you hold a regular driver's license in the state you reside for one full year before allowing you to apply for the CDL (commercial driver's license).
Your best plan is to get over here, find some other type of work to support yourself for a year, get your regular driving license, and then after all that you can work on getting your CDL. I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but that's the best approach.

Hey all!
Im looking into fulfilling a trucking dream and coming to the states to drive trucks! Obviously its all a bit of a mine field and there seems to be a tonne of confusion in regards to what you do and do not require. I have the UK equivalent of what I believe to be the CDL A license. Can someone tell me if this means anything in the US or is it useless?
