One thing to consider... most of the states require one year of driving in the U.S. with a regular driver's license before you can even apply for a Commercial Driver's License.

It is a state requirement for the licensing itself. We've had other members from overseas who came here and found other types of work until they had met that requirement. Afterwards they pursued their trucking career. I remember one fellow from the U.K. who sold cars for that first year until he could get his CDL.

Used cars for a dealership wouldn’t be affected negatively by a plant strike, but an economic downturn would affect either.
