Could be the ECM (Electronic Control Module). It's the brain, the black box and records everything--engine temps, braking, pressures, idling, engine parameters, transmission shifting, percentage in every gear, fuel mileage, torque, fuel flow, turbo pressures, etc.

I received a call from an International in-house representative telling me I have to go to a terminal to have my truck's data recorder removed and mailed to (I think she said) Navistar. Anyone else drive an International and ever had to do this? What exactly is a data recorder?
Terminal:
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
