What would cause excessive steering movement going down the road. Sometimes I find it difficult to keep it straight. If I hold the wheel in one spot the truck tends to want to go to the left. It has had an alignment and the steering shaft was replaced.

In CDL school? These are not normally top-of-the-line trucks.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

I have updated my status. I am not in cdl school. I drive locally.

Small company? Do this place do their own maintenance in house?

Could be a variety of single issues, or a combination of them: tire wear, king pins, axle bushings, tie rod ends, caster/camber set incorrectly, gearbox, etc.

Just because it had a recent alignment doesn't mean much. Most shops (like more than 70%), do not do the alignment correctly. Heck, most shops don't install and torque the tires correctly.

Okay, thanks for some ideas. The alignment I believe was done at a truck dealership. Yes, less than 10 trucks and the maintenance is done in house.
