What Turtle said. I’ve been with McElroy and I know drivers from TMC that make real good money and from what I’ve been told they have a really good training system. Now if you’re looking at company training for your CDL , I don’t know if they do that. McElroy is contracted with different schools to do their CDL training and then you’re contracted to drive for them. I don’t know what the details of the contract are.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Thank You! Currently, I paid for my training out of pocket so I could have the ability to choose who I wanted to go with. Lake Cumberland CDL here in Kentucky has been great so far and I am just researching all the companies. I really appreciate all the responses I am getting and the help.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

You probably know already but TMC and Mcelroy offer tuition reimbursement if it’s your first job. I believe that’s the requirement.

If you consider dry van , I started with Schneider and they were great. I was attached to the Lebanon, TN center and ran from California to Maine, Laredo, TX to Minnesota. But mostly I ran loads in mid-west (IL, IN, OH, KY, TN) and PA.

Good luck.

Dry Van:

A trailer or truck that that requires no special attention, such as refrigeration, that hauls regular palletted, boxed, or floor-loaded freight. The most common type of trailer in trucking.
