Volvo Blind Spot Sensor

Our 2020 Volvos have a safety feature built in that will honk the horn twice if you turn your signal on while somebody is in your blindspot. It's a good idea however it seems to just **** off those around you as they're unaware it isnt the driver doing it. I've not driven one yet but some of our drivers have gotten a few "1 finger salutes" while turning right in a double turn lane. It seems like a good way to get road rage going. Anybody else have experience with this?

From the volvo site

BLIND SPOT DETECTION As an addition to the Volvo Active Driver Assist system, the Volvo right side blind spot helps drivers detect potential dangers and avoid them. Along with an audio response, a LED warning light appears on the right side A-pillar, notifying the driver when a vehicle is within the blind spot radius.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

I have driven some 2020 Volvos with the BS detector (I just had to say it that way! 😏) . The "horn" honks in the cab only. Yes, it does get your attention, and the only person PO'd about that is the truck driver.

The "horn" honks in the cab only.

ohhhhhh....thanks for that, puts me at ease if it I get put in one. Doesnt seem much different than the other alarms that go off inside the cab then. Thanks for clearing that up Errol, who knew truck drivers exaggerated confused.gifrofl-3.gif

I didn't know about that warning sound. So the first time I turned my right turn signal to change lanes I heard that "honk!honk!", definitely coming from inside the truck, and I jumped! 😲

I'm glad you said it only honks in the cab. We have some 2020 volvos with that on it. I rode in one for about 2 hours.. just that short time annoyed me so much I told West Side that as much as I love Volvo's, I wouldn't want one of those.
