It’s been quite a process. I realized early on I wanted to do flatbed, and TMC was high on my list, mainly from everything I learned on here. They came to my school, and reinforced wanting to drive for them.

Applied at McElroy Melton cypress and TMC. I reached out to maverick and they only had OTR being out 12-14 days. Melton was quick and by far the most impressive company to deal with, but I also would have to be gone 12-14 days. McElroy and TMC would get me home on the weekends. My recruiter for McElroy was horrible. Im the end I liked what TMC offered more and stoped pursuing McElroy.

Things I like about TMC is having a terminal close to home. I’m in Charlotte, and they have a terminal in Columbia SC. I will be training there. I like their pay structure, and I like having the option to be home every weekend or stay out if I want too.

I’m very relieved the process of getting hired is over. I can’t wait to start training learning, and hopefully being a successful driver.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Jay, Congratulations on a fine decision and on getting an invite to orientation and training. Just be aware that you are not actually "hired" yet. When they've given you a fuel card and a company ID badge you'll know you're hired. Right now you're starting a lengthy interview process.

Keep us posted. We look forward to hearing about your progress!

Thanks old school. I know I’m not technically hired, but I have no plans not to make it. I’m a very determined person, but it will be an even better feeling when I get that fuel card and my truck
